I’m not out to compete – Mutambi

UNCROWNED prince of sungura, Simon Mutambi, says he is not out to compete.

The Cobra Kings boss said his ahead of the launch of his 10th album titled titled Zvese this evening at Eastpoint (formerly Jazz 105).

It carries 10 tracks namely Zvinamatire, Tariro, Dananai Kwenyu, Danwa Nemutupo among others.

The album was recorded at Alema Studio and mixed by veteran producer Bothwell Nyamondera.

His album launch comes at a time when Mark Ngwazi and Alick Macheso have divided opinion with their new projects.

Macheso released his 12th album Tinosvitswa Nashe early June while Ngwazi came with Nharo Nezvine Nharo later that month.

Mutambi will be unveiling his tonight, sparking debate on who is ruling the roosts in sungura.

He also shared his thought on competition as the sungura seasoned sizzles.

“I’m not out to compete but I believe that when one nails it, the need to be appreciated.

“I’m still willing to learn from others and I will not stop since the quest for perfection remains my priority.

“I have invited Alick Macheso as the guest of honour and Nicholas Zakaria as the guest speaker,” he said.

Added Mutambi:

“I’m confident the album will make an impression and I am willing to continue working hard.

“I urge fans to show up in numbers and enjoy my new music at the launch with stars.”

Fellow musicians Suluman Chimbetu, Baba Harare, Faheem Somanje, Gushungo, Somandla Ndebele and Progress Chipfumo are billed to perform at the event.

Besides Uchataura Zvese, he boasts of nine other albums comprising KuTI zvinotyisei released in 2009, Zvinesimba (2010), Anenyaya Yake (2011), Ko Uripapi (2012), Zvese Ndezvako (2014), Zviri Pasi Pedenga (2016),Makakosha Wani (2017), Hazvipere Mushe (2018), Zadziso (2019) and Saka Uchaita Sei released in 2020
