AN 87-YEAR-OLD man from Jotsholo in Lupane district died after allegedly drinking spirits without dilution. The man identified as Ndiya Luphahla was reportedly found lying on the roadside near his homestead by a neighbour early in the morning, hours after he had been seen drinking. Confirming the incident yesterday, Matabeleland North police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Siphiwe Makonese said the incident happened on Wednesday at Jotsholo Village.
“On 9 July in the evening, Ndiya Luphahla who had been drinking at Jotsholo business centre, left for his homestead. He however did not arrive home that evening.
“The next morning at around 6 am his neighbour found him lying on the roadside having difficulties in breathing,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
She said the neighbour rushed him to his homestead to help him recover but his condition deteriorated and he died at about 10am.
“His body was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem and his next of kin have been advised,” said Asst Insp Makonese.
Last week a 29-year-old man from Tsholotsho district also died after spending hours drinking undiluted spirits.
