A 33-YEAR-OLD man from Mandeji Village under Chief Garahwa in Chipinge died after being brutally stabbed by a friend during a beer binge dispute.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, confirmed the incident which happened on January 29, 2026 around 1am.
He identified the deceased as Obedience Dhliwayo.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said police have launched a manhunt for the suspect, Robert Mambwembwe, who fled from the scene immediately after the brutal attack.
Assistant Inspector Chinyoka said Dhliwayo and Mambwembwe were drinking traditional beer at Mandeji Business Centre when a misunderstanding arose over its sharing.
The disagreement reportedly escalated into a fistfight, during which Mambwembwe allegedly withdrew a knife, and stabbed Dhliwayo once in the stomach.
Dhliwayo sustained a deep abdominal stab wound, resulting in his intestines protruding.
Following the attack, a police report was promptly filed.
He was rushed to St Peter’s Mission Hospital for emergency attention and was referred to Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital in Mutare for further specialist treatment.
Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead along the way.
Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said police investigations are ongoing and appealed to members of the public to assist by reporting the whereabouts of the suspect, Mambwembwe, who remains at large.
He further urged citizens to resolve disputes peacefully and avoid resorting to violence, stressing that alcohol-related misunderstandings should never result in the loss of life.
