PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has called for the speedy implementation of party resolutions made at conferences and congresses to improve the quality of life for Zimbabweans.

Speaking at the 391st Ordinary Session of the Politburo, the President, who is Zanu PF First Secretary, challenged members to ensure all endorsed resolutions were fully and timeously implemented.

“As the Executive Committee of the Central Committee, the Politburo has a constitutional mandate to ensure that all resolutions of the party are fully and timeously implemented. In this regard, I challenge us, Politburo members, to remain focused, committed and result-oriented in the execution of our responsibilities,” he said.

In that regard, President Mnangagwa directed all Politburo secretaries to work diligently to implement party decisions and ensure that party departments at various levels operated efficiently in line with the party constitution.

“In all that we do, our national interests and the ongoing quest to improve the quality of life of our people remain our key motivation. There must be no vacillation in this respect,” he stressed.

He reminded party members that the party is supreme over Government.

“Let us equally safeguard the fundamental principle of party supremacy in relation to Government. In this regard, the resuscitation of meetings of Standing Committees of the Central Committee in adherence to Article Seven, Section 57 of the party constitution is a welcome development. Well done,” he said. He added that the 11 chairpersons of the standing committees must ensure their respective committees meet before every Ordinary Session of the Central Committee, and that they will be required to present summary reports of committee deliberations during plenary.

“These reports should highlight proposed policy matters and recommendations for consideration, adoption or implementation by the Central Committee. Ultimately, the approach should entrench collective decision-making and greater policy coherence within the party,” President Mnangagwa said.

The President commended ongoing party programmes aimed at strengthening and modernising ZANU PF.

“I wish to commend the ongoing programmes, workshops and meetings spearheaded by the national chairman, the secretary general and other secretaries of departments to enhance the efficiency and modernisation of the party. This will undoubtedly strengthen party structures and guarantee the responsiveness of the party to the aspirations of our membership and the people of our beloved motherland, Zimbabwe, as a whole,” he said.

The Politburo session comes ahead of the 46th Independence Day commemorations, which will be held at Maphisa in Matabeleland South Province under the theme “ZIM@46: Unity and Development Towards Vision 2030”.

“As highlighted by this year’s theme, unity of purpose remains the sound foundation of our socio-economic development. I, therefore, urge all of us to demonstrate unwavering focus as we continue to fulfil our mission to realise Vision 2030,” stated President Mnangagwa.

Meanwhile, a minute of silence was observed in honour of departed national heroes: Brigadier-General (Retd) Jonathan Hungwe, Major-General (Retd) Dr Hebert Chingono, Cde Elison Mupamawonde and Harare Provincial Affairs and Devolution Permanent Secretary Cde Cosmas Chiringa. President Mnangagwa noted that the party, Government and people of Zimbabwe will continue to cherish their invaluable contribution to the nation’s freedom and independence.
