A bitter feud has erupted between a woman and her former in-laws, with the former claiming that the latter cast a spell on her daughter to prevent her from remarrying.

Tabitha Mvududu claims she found out that the Kureya family fixed her daughter through a traditional healer-cum-prophetess who cut incisions (nyora) all over her daughter, Partner Mutanga’s body, just before they sent her packing.

Mvududu says the incisions have ruined her daughter’s chances of getting married as she has been rejected by several potential suitors after Malvin Kureya divorced her three years ago.

Speaking before Headman Chigodora’s court last week on Saturday, Mvududu said the Kureya family are jealous of her daughter’s beauty and success, and therefore do not want her to remarry, even after they chased her from their home long back.

“Partner is now suffering from nightmares and depression. This has created a rift between me and my husband who wants the incisions removed on his daughter’s body.

“The incisions are not only affecting Partner’s love life, but her sisters’ as well. They are having challenges in getting into stable relationships. I just want my daughter freed from this bondage so that she can lead a normal life,” she said.

Mvududu said when she approached Malvin Kureya over the matter soon after he had divorced Partner, he confessed approaching a healer.

“Now that the incisions are troubling my daughter, they are denying everything,” said Mvududu.

Partner said acting on Malvin’s instructions, her mother-in-law took her to a traditional healer-cum-prophetess popularly known as Mbuya Sithole.

“I did not know what they wanted to do because I was very young. They told me to remove my blouse and Mbuya Sithole first pricked me with a needle before cutting me with a razor blade.

“She rubbed some herbs on the incisions. I have three incisions on each breast, more on my waist, back, forehead and palm. Since then, I have been having sleepless nights and men detest me.

“It is as if they do not want me to get married to anyone else, yet their son turned his back on me,” she said.

Partner said as soon as the incisions were made on her body, she had a miscarriage and was divorced.

“After the miscarriage, he took me and dumped me at my parents’ home after telling me that I am possessed by a goblin,” said Partner.

Partner’s brother, Adonis, said he witnessed Mbuya Sithole conducting the ritual on his sister as he was working at her home on that particular day.

“My sister is telling the truth because on the day in question, I was building a hut at Mbuya Sithole’s homestead. The old woman cut her all over the body with a razor blade. After that, I told her to be careful with the family she had married into. A few weeks later, the marriage collapsed,” said Adonis.

However, Malvin strongly denied the accusations.

“We only took her to Mbuya Sithole’s place because some milk was leaking from her breasts during pregnancy. She got the help she wanted and the problem was solved. No incisions were put on her body.

“They are just trying to tarnish our image and reputation. Mvududu is an evil woman, she torments every woman I have dated since I parted ways with her daughter.

“I do not even think that the baby that Partner was carrying was mine. These people are liars,” charged Malvin.

Headman Chigodora instructed some elderly woman to check if Partner had any incisions all over her body and they confirmed seeing them.

He adjourned the matter to July 8 to allow Mbuya Sithole to be summoned to court to give her side of the story.

“We have seen the incisions, what we now want to know is the reason for the incisions. The incisions are there but were not there when Malvin married this woman,” he said.
