IN PICTURES: President’s simple act steals the spotlight at military ceremony

SERVANT LEADERSHIP… In a moment that caught the attention of onlookers, Commander-in-Chief of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, President Mnangagwa, instinctively bent down to pick up a soldier’s head dress after it accidentally fell to the ground moments before he began inspecting a Guard of Honour at the Zimbabwe National Defence University.

Rather than walking past the fallen hat, the President paused to retrieve it before continuing with the ceremonial inspection, a gesture that highlighted dignity, respect and attention to detail during one of the military’s highest protocol events.

In keeping with military parade protocol, the officer remained motionless throughout the incident as a senior military officer respectfully received the head dress from the President and carefully placed it back on the soldier’s head before the inspection continued.

The brief but symbolic moment was captured by Presidential Photographer John Manzongo during the official proceedings.
