RENOWNED DJ Mzoe outdid himself over the weekend when he hosted an unforgettable public bash for those born in the month of August at The Boundary Bar Restaurant in Bulawayo.

The event, which was named “August Birthday Shellings,” also featured the launch of a music festival he termed Fudu Festival from his company brand name, Fudu.

The event was a grand celebration of the unique bond shared by those born in August, music, and most notably, served as a way to unite people. The DJ who is also an August baby celebrated his 38th birthday with others.

Said the DJ: “I was born in August and that’s why I chose to host this event this month. The day was all about the children and those born in August.”

The mega bash which was well attended saw kids being treated to a lot of activities. They welcomed Spring in style as they experienced the joy of swimming, face painting, and fun on jumping castles and trampolines. There were more activities for them in the form of car and quad bike rides.

Thereafter, the Fudu Festival got into full swing with an impressive lineup of DJs — Zetfactor, Cuzin Kooler, Bovas, Mjay, Bovas, Sinclair, and DJ Bryce Klassic bringing their signature styles to the turntables. They ensured that attendees were on their feet throughout the night.

DJ Mzoe said he introduced the festival to revolutionise the entertainment industry by providing a platform for emerging DJs, artistes and musicians to showcase their talent.

“Fudu Festival is about promoting up-and-coming DJs and artistes. That’s why some of us didn’t perform as the idea was to give the young artistes, especially the likes of DJ Mjay, Cuzinkooler, and Costa a platform to perform and showcase their skills. The day was really about them,” he said.

He said he was overwhelmed by how things turned out as he did not expect a huge turnout.

“I didn’t expect what happened because it was so full. I was overwhelmed by the way people responded. It all went well, more than what we expected. We had more than 2 000 children who came with their parents to celebrate their birthdays.

“With the response that we got, I’m sure it’s definitely not going to be the last event. This is the beginning of a new vibe altogether,” DJ Mzoe said.

He said he is already planning to host another event in December.

“I’m sure it’s going to be bigger than this one. I can’t wait to do it again for December babies, but this one will not be exclusive to December babies as it’ll include other months to celebrate their birthdays in one.

“We’re yet to finalise the date and venue, but it’s definitely happening again in December. The shellings are here now, the shellings are here forever,” said DJ Mzoe.
