The inaugural Matabeleland North Creatives Awards are set to take place at Hwange Little Theatre on November 28, celebrating and honouring the artistic achievements within the province.

Initiated by the Shangano Arts Trust, the awards will be a highlight of the Shangano Arts Festival. The event will feature six competitive categories: Best Actor, Best Dancer, Best Poet, Best Upcoming Artiste, Best Director, and Best Promoter.

The theme for this inaugural edition is “Celebrating Our Heritage, Embracing Our Future”.

Petros Ndhlovu, founder of the Shangano Arts Trust, explained that the awards aim to instill pride among Matabeleland North’s artistes.
“The creation of these awards was driven by our desire to recognise and celebrate artistic talent in Matabeleland North. We hope to promote creativity and empower local artistes, with a particular focus on youth and women,” said Ndhlovu.

The awards will initially focus on seven districts in Matabeleland North: Binga, Bubi, Hwange, Lupane, Nkayi, Tsholotsho, and Umguza.

Submissions can be made online through the Shangano Arts Trust’s social media channels or in person at designated collection points in each district. Guidelines and submission forms will be available on social media platforms. – @mthabisi_mthire
