Independence Gala for UMP

Junior. Event organiser Mr Jimmy Juawo, said nine artists and three groups were expected to perform.
“We have lined up artists who promised to wow fans. There is security, free food and drinks for all people and we urge people from all political persuasions to come and attend the event.”

UMP legislator Cde Simbaneuta Mudarikwa said the gala was the brainchild of the district and Zanu-PF supporters who appreciated what the President and fallen heroes did for the country.

“Independence is about being born again and having back the dignity and democracy that was taken away by white settlers. People were given the chance to go back to school and start businesses in areas which were reserved for the few whites.

“Independence corrected a historical injustice for people of UMP and the country as a whole. As we celebrate, we also salute fallen heroes and President Mugabe who exerted effort to liberate the country.

“As a result women were emancipated and everybody must be part and parcel of the celebrations,” he said.
“People have put their own resources to make the event a success and they are going to slaughter cattle and goats they will eat at the event. The residents of UMP district are excited about the celebrations as it is the first time they have held such an event,” he said.

The District Administrator, Mr Mark Tadayira, said they were expecting at least 5 000 people to attend the gala.
“People have contributed 205 cattle, 875 goats and countless chickens and we still have US$13 000 that we have not used yet,” he said.
