Revered gospel ensemble Indosakusa the Morning Star will headline this year’s Zimbabwe Independence Day celebrations at Minda High School in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province, on April 18, where they are expected to perform songs from their forthcoming 13th album, Unembeza.

The album is scheduled for launch in Bulawayo a day before the national event.

The group, which has remained a stalwart on the gospel scene for over two decades, has promised a spiritually uplifting and socially conscious project. In an update ahead of the launch and the group’s performance at the Independence Day celebrations, group leader Oscar K Siziba (Thobela) said it is all systems go.

He said the inspiration behind the album is faith. “As usual, we got the inspiration from God Himself. God is the source of our music composition. Our music carries a message of prophecy, hope, and the gospel of salvation,” he said.

The album features 10 tracks, with Siziba highlighting the title track, Unembeza (Consciousness), as one of the standout songs.

“There are some standout songs like the title track Unembeza. This song is prophetic because it speaks about the situation happening across the globe, where nations are at war with each other,” he said. He also revealed that the group took a fresh approach in the recording process, producing the album in South Africa.

“We recorded this album in South Africa at JLS Studios. The recording was unique and the composition has a lot of elements we added. Some of the songs include traditional instruments to attract the new generation so they can appreciate our genre,” he said.

Beyond its musical richness, the album also tackles social and workplace challenges alongside its spiritual messages.

“Some of the challenges are reflected in songs like Who Will Guard the Guard, which expresses insecurity among people at workplaces. There are also spiritual lyrics such as ‘No one can limit you because no one knows your future,’” said Siziba.

He credited the group’s longevity and unity to faith and prayer.

“The secret to us staying together is prayer. As it is written in Psalm 127:1: ‘Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchmen stand guard in vain.’ That is our secret,” he said.

Speaking on the Independence Day performance, Siziba said the gala will provide a platform to sample their new album.

“Our fans should expect fireworks at this year’s Independence event. We’ve prepared a strong production and we’ll not disappoint.”

Following the album launch, the group will celebrate another milestone with their anniversary festivities in May, before embarking on a broader growth plan.“After this album, our fans should expect big things — collaborations with international musicians, more shows and tours because we’re aiming high. No turning back,” Siziba said.

Formed in 2001 in Mapane Village, Gwanda, Indosakusa the Morning Star continues to build on its legacy of delivering gospel music that blends rich harmonies with messages of hope, unity, and spiritual reflection.
