The search for Zimbabwe’s next queen is officially underway after the Miss Universe Zimbabwe flung open its doors and this time, it will not cost a cent to enter.

In a major shift that is already turning heads, organisers have made registration completely free, throwing the competition wide open and giving young women from across the country a rare chance to step into the spotlight without financial barriers.

The move has ignited excitement in pageantry circles, with aspiring models and beauty queens racing to register for what is shaping up to be a highly competitive edition.

For many, this is more than just a pageant it is a life-changing platform that could catapult them onto the global stage.

While official timelines remain tightly guarded, insiders say the wait for the grand finale may not be long.

In an interview with Miss Universe Zimbabwe brand strategist Josh Taderera, he said preparations have started for this year’s fourth edition of Miss Universe Zimbabwe.

“The crowning night will take place early June, as still finalising key modalities before making a formal announcement. The registration is open and free. Remember Miss Universe pageant does not discriminate, age or marital status,” he said.

Taderera said they are set to announce the audition dates once the girls have fully registered.

“Registration closes April 23 and audition begins two days after starting with Bulawayo then Harare and diaspora auditions on May 9.”

However, the pressure is already mounting, as whoever takes the crown will be stepping into big shoes left by reigning queen Lyshanda Moyas.

Moyas has enjoyed a stand-out reign that has elevated both her profile and Zimbabwe’s image on the global stage. Her appearance at the Miss Universe pageant in Thailand turned her into a fan favourite, with her confidence, elegance and charisma winning over audiences from around the world.

She did not just compete — she connected.

From the runway to public appearances, Moyas carried herself with a presence that saw her affectionately dubbed Africa’s darling, as crowds gravitated towards her authenticity and charm. Her performance proved that Zimbabwean contestants can hold their own among the world’s best.

But her success did not end on the international stage.

Back home, Moyas has continued to build momentum, turning her crown into currency by securing endorsement deals and brand partnerships. Her reign has become a blueprint for what is possible when beauty meets purpose, discipline and strategy.

Her journey is now inspiring a new wave of contestants eager to follow in her footsteps.

With free registration now in play, the pageant is expected to draw entries from across the country, including new faces who may have previously been locked out due to financial constraints. This could usher in a more diverse and dynamic group of contestants, adding fresh energy to the competition.

Still, the big question lingers — who will rise to the moment?
