the voting process.
Sources said the party cancelled the primaries after realising that violence was going to reign supreme if they had been held without addressing the raised hitches.
Mr Douglas Mwonzora yesterday confirmed the postponement of the primaries.
Although he said the postponement was a result of provisions of the party’s constitution, sources said those who had set yesterday as the date for the primaries had not violated any party laws.
Mr Mwonzora said there should be an allowance of two weeks between the confirmation dates and that of primary elections.
“There had been plans to hold them today (yesterday), but we have moved them to next Saturday,” he said.
“According our constitution, there should be a period of at least 14 days between the confirmation dates and that of primary elections.”
The Herald is reliably informed that several sitting Members of Parliament who were not confirmed lodged complaints with the party’s top leadership challenging the confirmation process.
“There were complaints that were raised by several MPs in those two provinces (Harare and Chitungwiza),” said an MDC-T insider.
“It is clear that the process was manipulated and there were certain people who the party wanted to get rid of using the confirmation process.
“The MPs felt that the electoral colleges were flawed as some of the people who voted did not qualify to do so.”
