SENIOR Government officials touring Bulawayo-based Ingwebu Breweries have expressed deep admiration for the company’s bold modernisation drive, describing it as a sterling example of industrial resilience and alignment with Zimbabwe’s re-industrialisation thrust.
The officials, who are on a guided tour of the facility, praised the successful installation of a state-of-the-art US$1,7 million Beer PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate) packaging plant, hailing it as a “game-changer” for the local beverage industry.

The cutting-edge investment is set to significantly enhance Ingwebu’s production capacity, improve distribution efficiency, and extend product shelf life marking a strategic pivot away from traditional packaging methods that defined the firm’s historical identity.

“This is a clear demonstration that local industry is rising to the occasion. Ingwebu’s bold transition into PET technology speaks directly to the Second Republic’s vision for a modernised, competitive manufacturing sector,” said one senior official during the tour.
The PET packaging line is a key pillar in Ingwebu’s broader diversification strategy aimed at increasing product accessibility and convenience while positioning the brand to compete more aggressively on both the local and regional beverage markets.
Known for its iconic opaque sorghum beer served in bulk clay pots and returnable containers, Ingwebu is now embracing lightweight, recyclable plastic bottles in response to evolving consumer demands and stiffening competition from regional and multinational brands.
The new PET bottles favoured for their portability, recyclability and cost-effectiveness are expected to significantly improve the company’s environmental footprint and strengthen its alignment with national goals for sustainable manufacturing.
The investment is already spurring wider economic benefits, with the company scaling up recruitment as it gears up to meet anticipated demand under the new packaging regime.
