adminThe infant was attempting to cross the Beitbridge-Bulawayo Road at Malala when he was knocked down by Mbuso Nkala’s speeding Mazda 323.
The boy sustained a fractured right arm and bruises on the head. Nkala, who stays in Njube suburb, Bulawayo and is employed by Altimate Driving School in Johannesburg, South Africa has since been charged for contravening a section of the Road Traffic Act.
He was not asked to plead to the charge when he appeared before Mr Carrington Karidzagundi recently.
He was remanded out of custody to 28 February on US$50 bail.
Charges are that on 22 December at around 8:30am, Nkala was driving a South African registered Mazda 323 registration number ZSC 793GP and heading towards Bulawayo. Upon reaching the 295km peg along the same road, he spotted the boy crossing the highway and failed to apply brakes in time resulting in him hitting the toddler. After committing the offence, Nkala sped off from the scene and a follow-up was made by other motorists leading to his arrest at a roadblock along the same road at Makhadho.
