A 36-YEAR-OLD injiva who allegedly raped a drunk woman has been sentenced to 20 years in jail. Lungisani Mabhena of Entumbane suburb in Bulawayo was arrested by members of the public after he returned the next day to rape his 30-year-old victim once more. Mabhena appeared before senior regional magistrate Mr Trynos Utawashe facing rape charges.
He was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment of which three years were suspended for five years on condition that he does not commit a similar crime.
In delivering his judgment, Mr Utawashe said sexual misconduct was a serious offence which was rampant lately and as such, culprits were to be dealt with.
Prosecutor Ms Robin Mukura told the court that Mabhena met the complainant at 1am on 30 October 2014 at Zothile Sports Bar.
Mabhena, who was in the company of two men, approached her and assaulted her until she fell.
Mabhena then raped her once while one his friends held a knife to her neck and the other looked on.
After the rape, the victim told him where she stays.
She informed her husband that Mabhena might come to their place the following day.
Mabhena arrived at her place of residence the following day and upon entering the yard, the landlady called out the complainant, her husband and neighbours who then apprehended him.
