A FORMER National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) worker who went partially blind following an injury while on duty is demanding more than $30,000 in compensation from the parastatal.
According to court papers filed at the Bulawayo High Court last week, Isaac Khumalo, through his lawyers Mcijo, Dube and Partners, said on August 6, 1992, he was involved in a work-related accident while arch-welding resulting in him sustaining injuries to both eyes.
“I was rushed to Richard Morris Hospital where I was treated and started putting corrective lenses for which NRZ has been paying.
However, on July 21, 2014, I went to see an eye specialist who examined me and valuated my disability at 60 percent for which I should have been compensated,” said Khumalo.
Khumalo said despite demanding compensation, NRZ has not paid him.
According to court papers, Khumalo is demanding $31,703 from his former employer with a prescribed interest calculated from the date of service of summons to the date of full payment.
NRZ has not yet filed a notice of entry of appearance to defend the summons.
