Zimbabwean miners need to develop new technologies and new ways of working to operate more efficiently and sustainably.
Speaking at the Mine Entra 2023 cocktail in Harare on Wednesday, Mines and Mining Development Minister Zhemu Soda said the key to mining development in the country was innovation, while there was also need to work with communities to ensure that mining benefited everyone concerned and the country at large.
“I believe that Mine Entra 2023 is a great opportunity to showcase the innovation and the potential of the Zimbabwean mining industry. I am confident that the discussions and the deals that take place here will help to shape the future of mining in Zimbabwe. I would like to thank the organisers of Mine Entra for putting together such a successful event and I would also like to thank the sponsors and the exhibitors for their support.
“Mine Entra is one of the largest mining trade shows in Southern Africa, and it is a testament to the importance of the mining industry to our continent. Mining is a vital part of many African economies, and it plays a key role in creating jobs and generating revenue.”
Minister Zhemu said the theme of Mine Entra 2023, of accelerating economic transformation through mineral beneficiation, was a fitting theme, as the mining industry was undergoing a rapid transformation.
“The mining industry is facing a number of challenges, including electricity challenges and depressed mineral prices. However, I am confident that the mining industry can overcome these challenges and emerge stronger than ever before,” he said.
The mining industry in Zimbabwe represents a significant contributor to the country’s tax income, which strengthens Government finances and enables investment in various public services.
Taxes associated with mining operations can include corporate income tax, royalties and contributions to social programmes.
