Inquiry into pupil stabbing

The principal of The Glen High School in Menlyn declined to comment yesterday morning.
Gauteng education department spokesman Charles Phahlane confirmed the incident and expressed the department’s “concern about the stabbing of the learner even though the incident took place outside of school and after school hours”.

Phahlane said the department was “putting in an independent investigation to understand what transpired”, and that the School Governing Body was also investigating the matter, “with the view to take disciplinary steps against the learners involved”.

Brooklyn Police Station spokesman Captain Colette Weilbach yesterday confirmed the incident, adding that the victim had been stabbed in the neck at the corner of Torobay Avenue and Garsfontein Drive at about 2pm on Friday.

When Sowetan visited the school yesterday, dry blood spots were visible on the grey paving used for parking outside the school premises. The spots are about six metres from the locked gate allegedly used by learners. — Sowetan.
