The couple’s unparalleled maturity is way beyond their generation.
Theirs is a refreshing script of true love born out of sacrifice, prayer and honesty.
The modest and yet adored couple’s love story started in rural Nyazura, cemented on the shores of South Africa and currently trending via social media.
True happiness has always been the couple’s biggest weapon.
In their own admission, they always use humour to ease their sorrows when chips are down.
In short, Gilbert Nyamanhindi (20) and his wife Joyce Manyara (19) have been highly favoured from being mere content creators to role models.
Fellow celebrities, including Mambo Dhuterere (Darlington Mutseta), have spoken glowingly about this couple.
Their love story is hard to come by in their generation where splits, fights and arguments are rife.
Last week, the couple came to Harare for an interview on Star FM with V Candy.
The Saturday Herald Lifestyle also caught up with the down-to-earth couple.
Managed by Dr Banabas Marambire of Barmlo Investments, the couple’s business affairs are now professionally run.
Gilbert, who now enjoys his new role as a content creator, role model and marriage builder, first referred us to Dr Marambire before he could grant us an interview.
“It’s quite an honour having an interview with The Herald newspaper because you are one of the biggest papers in Zimbabwe but let me seek clearance from my manager,” said the soft-spoken Gilbert.
After getting permission from his manager, Gilbert, who was busy shooting their kids, shared how social media has made them wife celebrities.
“We work as a couple in producing our content which is captured through our I-phone.
“We stay in Mpumalanga, where I work in construction, while content creation is our part time job.
“I enjoy working with my wife because we are more than friends dating back to the time when we were school kids back in Nyazura,” narrated Gilbert.
The couple, who are now raising a six month old daughter Christabella aka Kikkie in South Africa, narrated how they met in Nyazura.
“I first spotted my wife at a borehole, where she was plaiting a relative back in the rural areas, but it was not easy to win her heart.
“I later devised a plan to win and we became lovers from the days when I was still in school.
“I then came to South Africa and she followed me and started staying together here up to now.”
Gilbert and Joyce, who share the same cellphone, concurred their content creation was now rewarding.
“We used to sell ice to motorists along the busy highway but now we are okay as content creators because we are getting contracts to advertise entrepreneurs and big businesses here in South Africa.
“We always laugh when we reflect on the challenges we once faced here in South Africa.
“At some point, it was hard to make ends meet but we never argued or fought like what some couples would do,” interjected his wife, Joyce.
The mother of one shared how risk-taking paid for them.
“When we bought our iPhone, it was a huge gamble that we took but now we are glad because it is paying off.
“Before, we acquired it, we used a Samsung handset but its memory was low.
“We are now happy because we can shoot our content using this gadget with a better picture quality.”
The couple, who are now professionally run, could not be drawn into shedding more light on their fallout with fellow content creators, Tytie and Kikie.
“It’s now water under the bridge but at the moment we are happy with what we have accomplished.
“The coming in on board of our manager Dr Marambire whose firm blessed us with a housing unit in Nyazura.
“We have come to this conclusion after realising that we needed someone to manage us.”
Joyce, who believes in originally, has credited their success to simplicity.
“We agreed that we had to shoot our skits from our shack to make the story real.
“We don’t need to hire people’s cars because it will dilute the essence of originality.
“As a couple we are enjoying what we are doing because it is coming from the bottom of our hearts.”
The couple’s manager − Dr Marambire − conceded that the Nyathis were immensely talented.
“What I can safely say about this young couple is that they are a rare breed and way mature beyond many of their peers.
“I wouldn’t call them content creators but role models who are sharing their real life experiences on social media.
“The couple’s behaviour is what we miss among modern day couples despite them being very young,” he said.
Dr Marambire, who gifted the couple with a housing unit in Nyazura worth US$10000, outlined their long and short-term plans.
“Our short-term plan at the moment is to ensure that they are financially stable while their company is registered for professional reasons. Since they are still young, we would like to ensure that they have a wedding and formalise their union as husband and wife since they are working together.
“One of our long term plans is to see them working with big corporate companies and running their business affairs professionally.”
Dr Marambire, who was raised in a humble background, conceded he could relate with the couple’s upbringing.
“I relate well with the way they are living and their content.
“Their humility and respect prompted me to work with them because they are role models as I previously indicated,” he said.
Similar sentiments were echoed by Gilbert’s father, Ephrage Nyamanhindi.
“Regarding his full details, Gilbert is the first born in a family of four − three boys and a girl.
“From childhood, he was a clever boy who loved to entertain, running around all day until he was five because during that time his younger brother (second born) was old enough to play with him.
“He was a well-behaved boy. At the age of 10, he started to compose unreleased songs, many singles I can’t remember,” recalled the father.
The only concern his father had against his son was marrying earlier.
“The only problem that I couldn’t agree with at first was him getting married at a tender age. However, he proved to us that love and age don’t matter since I am also learning from him some of the tricks on how to manage a happy marriage. When he came to South Africa, he released some music tracks that he did with his friend but I advised him to venture into acting and he excelled.”
Nyamanhindi also praised her daughter-in-law for her respect and humility.
“There is nothing I can take away from my daughter-in-law because she has respect and is hard working.
“Gilbert’s wife loves him whole-heartedly and we are proud of what she has done for the family.
“I blessed them as a couple to continue working together as husband and wife.”
For all the credit she Nyathis are getting from the public, the young content creation couple will continue winning the hearts of many with their authenticity.
Content creation has created many celebrities but authenticity and originality were lacking. The Nyathis, who are doing their job effortlessly on a low budget, have proved to many that nothing beats innovation and creativity.
With a bit of professionalism, consistency and focus, the Nyathis are destined for the stars.
