The light that has been cast on music superstar Oliver Mtukudzias career seems to be shining favourably on the children that inherited his musical genes.
Like the late Sam, Selmor Mtukudzi has not struggled to live up to the Mtukudzi name as her career grows in leaps and bounds.
While their fatheras name undoubtedly played a role in how they have been received by the Zimbabwean music scene, the two won the hearts of music lovers off the strength of their own sweat and ingenuity.
Teenagers are known to fight for the affections of their parents, as they seek to be the apple of their parentsa eyes either through their deeds or character.
One thus wonders how things were in the Tuku household between Selmor and fellow musician, with both being the chosen ones to carry forward the Tuku music dynasty.
If the book Tuku Backstage by Shepherd Mutamba is to be believed, Selmor believed that support was given more to her sibling than her.
Extracts from a chapter a? . Daughtersa? revealed how the relationship between Tuku and Selmor collapsed after she made sensational accusations in the media, in 2012, that the superstar was not supportive enough.
However, according to Selmor, things between her and Sam were never sour despite the two being in the same line of business as their mentor and father.
a?All siblings have rivalries and when you are young you are always pushed by that competitive spirit to push past each other and do better. But it was purely done with a clean spirit devoid of any malicious intent,a? she said.
Selmor added that although it had taken Zimbabwean a little time to warm up to the talent of the young Sam, his talent had been apparent even in his younger days.
a?You could tell he was destined for bigger things right from the beginning. You could tell that he had that spark of genius even from his younger days and that is what drew a lot of people to him and his music,a? she said.
