FARMERS in Ward 23 of Insiza District, Matabeleland South have launched a committee charged with spearheading community development.
Committee members were elected at a meeting held at Shangani recently.  Among those who attended the meeting were Zanu-PF Central Committe member Cde Molly Moyo, war veteran Cde Jabulani Phetshu, Ward 23 councillor Cde Felence Sikhosana, farmers and miners from the ward.

Cde Sikhosana, who was elected as chairperson of the committee, said the Insiza and Shangani Development Committee would spearhead development in the community.

“The committee will help us in coordinating projects that will see the development of our ward.  Zanu-PF is a party that aims to deliver to the people and with this newly elected committee we are going to ensure that we deliver on the party’s promises to the people. We will mobilise investors and donors who will work  with us in developing our community,” said Cde Sikhosana.

She said the committee would also ensure transparency in distribution of farming inputs.
“Farming inputs have arrived in Filabusi.  This committee is going to ensure that the distribution of the inputs is transparent so that every farmer regardless of background gets a fair share of the inputs,” said Cde Sikhosana.

She pledged to work with the committee in developing Shangani Hospital, schools and water sources.
Cde Mpofu, who was elected the organising secretary, urged the elected leaders to work together.

“We need to work together as a team to develop our community. We must put aside all our differences because the three-legged animal (inclusive government) is not coming back. If people have an attitude of opposition we will not survive but if we work together our community is going to be developed,” said Cde Mpofu.

She urged all elected members to actively take part in the activities of the committee.
“All elected members must commit themselves to working with us as we begin this journey. We are not interested in farmers and miners who do not want to work. Everyone has a role to play in mobilising projects aimed at community development,” she said

Cde Phetshu, the committee coordinator, said they will use the available resources to plan and initiate projects.
“Shangani and Insiza are areas rich in natural resources.  We want to use the available resources to implement projects that will develop the community.

“Farmers and miners must give back to the community so that we do not depend on outsiders for assistance. We will put in place Zunde ramambo/Isiphala senkosi so that we take care of the less  privileged and donate some of the grain to our hospital,” he said.
