in cases of accidents and natural disasters.
ZFU communications officer Mr Tinashe Kairiza said the organisation was imploring farmers to embrace the culture of insuring their assets to avoid loses.
Mr Kairiza said the ZFU was raising awareness among farmers on the importance of insurance.
“We are educating farmers on this and we are confident that the mindset of farmers will evolve to the level of understanding and appreciating why insurance is important in the farming sector,” he said.
“The advantages farmers have in being covered by insurances include compensation after loss or destruction of crops and assets as a result of natural disasters and accidents among other advantages.”
He urged farmers to consult the ZFU on the type of contracts and names of contractors before signing agreements.
“In the final analysis, we always advise farmers to present to us, the sort of contracts they are planning to enter before they can commit themselves.
“That way, it minimises chances of quarrels in the future,” he said adding that this would also enable bogus contractors bent on depriving farmers to be weeded out. – New Ziana.
