INTEREST in the 2023 Econet Victoria Falls Marathon is soaring as registration continues.
The prestigious marathon is set for July 2 in the country’s premier resort town.
Registration is set to close on June 8 or earlier in the case that organisers get the maximum possible number of athletes they want.
The marathon was first run in 2006 and has proved to be one of the most iconic races in the country.
Jonathan Chinyoka won in the male category while Patience Murove was the top female athlete in last year’s edition.
Moses Tarakinyu and Caroline Mhandu won the last edition of the half marathon.
Over 4 500 local and foreign athletes from more than 30 countries took part in the event.
The race route is popular for its terrain and incredible scenery.
Four races are scheduled for the day – a full marathon (42kms), half marathon (21kms), relay (10.5km x 2), and a fun run of approximately 7kms.
The relay will consist of pairs, one will run the first half and the other in the second half, adding up to a total distance of 21kms.
The organisers are also offering another race for people using wheelchairs or tricycles or hand cycles in a Specially Abled category with a distance of approximately 18 kms.
