AFTER three years in the cold, Sunday Chidzambwa is BACK!
The 70-year-old coach announced his retirement from coaching in March 2020, after having spent more than three decades in the trenches in which he transformed himself into the most successful coach in Zimbabwe football history.
He made it clear that while he was retiring from the dugout, he would remain open for work as a consultant as and when his services were required.
However, it appears three years on the sidelines have been too much for a man who has spent virtually his entire life in football.
“Mhofu is coming back,” an authoritative source told H-Metro.
“He is just making the last consultations with family and friends but I can tell you that the best coach in this country is coming back to the dugout.
“He has made his mind because he has been under a lot of pressure from a lot of people who feel that his services are still needed.”
He added:
“They feel that he has recharged his batteries enough in the last three years and the time has come for him to return to the ring.
“Football coaches get better with age and if you check around, it’s the experienced coaches who are still making the huge calls.
“Brito (the Highlanders coach) is the same age as Mhofu and Wenger (the FIFA Chief of Global Football Development) is just six years younger than these two.”
Efforts to contact Chidzambwa were unsuccessful yesterday.
