THE National Athletics Association of Zimbabwe (Naaz) has opened registration for the rescheduled World Athletics sprints and hurdles coaching clinic to be held at White City Stadium in Bulawayo.

The WA Coach Education and Certification System Level 2 course which was supposed to run from December 1-8, was postponed to February 17-24, 2023 at the request of participants who were waiting for clearances from their employers.

The course follows a WA Coach Education and Certification System Level 1 course that was held in October and had a reduced class of 16 participants with the majority being teachers.

Five participants from the last programme were Batswana.
Tendai Tagara, the Naaz president said the class will have 20 participants.

“Following a WA Coach Education and Certification System Level 1, the first stage of international athletics coaching where participants covered the basics of the sport, we are having a level 2 that will focus on sprints and hurdles. It’s an issue of specialising as the first level combined events, track and field programmes as well as medium and long-distance training.

“A World Athletics appointed course director will be in charge of the course coming up in February. Only 20 coaches will be trained and those interested in attending the course can start registration,” said Tagara.
Course fees have been set at US$400 and to secure a place, one has to pay a US$50 deposit. — @ZililoR
