Intra-party violence rocks MDC Alliance

Crime Reporter
Intra-party violence continues to dog the opposition MDC Alliance as it lurches  towards its congress next month with clashes reported among supporters over the weekend during their district meetings.

Last weekend several supporters in Chitungwiza, Masvingo, Chegutu, Sanyati and Norton were arrested while others sustained injuries following clashes.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed receiving the reports but could not shed more details.

Investigations conducted by The Herald revealed that in Marondera, there were clashes between Marondera Central Ward 4 Councillor Charles Ngwena (38), who is believed to be aligned to party leader Mr Nelson Chamisa and Lenon Zhanje (26), who is aligned to secretary-general Mr Douglas Mwonzora.

The two had a disagreement over delegates and supporters resulting with Zhanje stoning a Toyota Prado (AAV 3945) belonging to Ngwena.

Zhanje was then beaten up by Wellington Makonese, Wisdom Gwenzi and another supporter only identified as Sadza.
