THE country’s oldest arts and cultural fair, the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo, has announced a group poetry competition for high schools. This initiative encourages students to delve into their creative depths and express themselves through the art of poetry.
“We’re excited to announce a group poetry competition for schools. The competition encourages students to explore their creativity and express themselves through poetry,” read the post.
Schools are invited to register their groups for the September showcase, with a commitment fee of US$20 per group.
This is a winner-takes-all competition, with the victorious group set to walk away with a grand prize of US$200. Interested participants must submit their entries by the July 30 deadline to ensure a chance at this rewarding opportunity.
The Intwasa Arts Festival, scheduled to take place from September 24 to 27, celebrates the city’s vibrant cultural heritage and artistic expression.
Raisedon Baya, the festival’s director has consistently expressed optimism about the event’s success, particularly following the positive response to the “Become a Friend of Intwasa” fundraising initiative launched earlier this year.
This campaign aims to raise US$1 000 from 50 supporters, with funds directed towards empowering young talents in poetry, hip-hop, dance, writing, and music.
“The funds will support innovative performances and provide emerging artists with exposure, confidence, and the opportunity to develop their craft,” Baya noted in an earlier interview.
Schools are encouraged to participate and showcase the creative talents of their students, making this year’s festival a celebration of youth, culture, and artistic expression.
Poetry, a pivotal art form will join literature, music, and workshops as part of the festival. – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
