Investors seek water, energy assurances for Bulawayo

BULAWAYO continues to receive more investment inquiries from both local and foreign investors who seek constant assurances on reliable sources of water and energy.

Minister of State and Devolution Affairs for Bulawayo Metropolitan Province, Judith Ncube, said this on the sidelines of a consultative meeting organised in the city on Wednesday by the Zimbabwe Investment Development Authority (Zida).

She said potential investors were keen on investing in manufacturing, construction and tourism sectors amid reports that the province contributed seven percent of national investments last year.

Zida is hosting provincial stakeholder engagement meetings to showcase potential investments across the country. Minister   Ncube said water and energy supply were key issues being raised by Bulawayo potential investors.

She said once water and energy is guaranteed, Bulawayo becomes a very attractive investment destination.

Bulawayo is undergoing a crippling 72-hour weekly water shedding programme as part of its water management system with water levels at its supply dams now at 52 percent full.

“There are several investment inquiries from potential investors and most inquiries are in manufacturing, construction and tourism and these are key areas that Bulawayo was known for. Of late we are leaning so much on tourism,” said Minister Ncube.

She said most investors want to be guaranteed adequate water supplies and power.
