Invictus unveils hydrocarbon prospects

AUSTRALIAN oil and gas firm Invictus Energy has completed an interpretation of seismic data acquired from the CB23 survey, which it hopes will reveal a  single, significant hydro-carbon accumulation.

In an update, the company said through Q1 2024 it had completed an interpretation of the processed seismic data, tying in key subsurface features to the existing seismic data set and incorporating insights from the Mukuyu well data.

The two-dimensional survey comprises 425km of modern, high-quality seismic data, which complements a 2021 two-dimensional survey and a reprocessed 1990 portfolio already held by Invictus.

The company has mapped a number of seismic amplitude-supported prospects in the Dande Formation in Mashonaland Central, which it believes could represent part of a single large accumulation.

Invictus is now evaluating the CB23 survey data to mature the newly discovered prospects at Musuma, Mopane and Mururo to drill-ready status ahead of an exploration drilling campaign.

Last year, Zimbabwe-based Invictus discovered gas at a well it drilled in Mbire, anticipated to boost the nation’s export earnings, economic growth, Government revenue and create both new jobs and downstream industries.

“Newly mapped amplitude-supported prospects in the Dande Formation that have been revealed through the CB23 Seismic Survey we acquired last year, are very exciting.

“The fact we see the seismic amplitude response across the Musuma, Mopane and Mururo prospects in the south-east of our exploration licence area is extremely encouraging and could ultimately be part of a single, large hydro-carbon accumulation,” said Invictus Energy managing director, Mr Scott Macmillan.

“The Dande Formation targets are relatively shallow (sub-1 200m) and can be tested with a simple low-cost vertical well.

“The company continues to evaluate the CB23 survey data and these exciting new prospects alongside others in the portfolio, including the untested basin margin play to mature them to drill-ready for an upcoming exploration drilling campaign.”

The company has stated that Zimbabwe may have over 5,5 billion barrels of oil.
