Invitation to Dance hailed as success

The event saw a number of disciplines coming together with dancing, rap and stand-up comedy all showcased during the event.

A variety of crews and up-and-coming musicians were brought on board to exhibit their capabilities in a drive that was meant to uplift youths through art.

In an interview recently, one of the organisers of the event, Vusumuzi Maphosa, better known as DJ Fivestar, said the event had been a success as evidenced by the number of people who attended.

“The show was great and we are happy with the performances given by the artistes. We are also pleased with the number of people who came to witness the event,” he said.

He said the event had been pencilled in for the afternoon to give a chance to most young people to attend as a night event would not be viable for many. “We set the show for the afternoon because it was targeted at young people. We know that they have curfews, so an afternoon show was best for them,” said DJ Fivestar.

He said the event was about eradicating some of the mischief that youths get up to by bringing them to a place where they can express themselves artistically.

“The event was about taking the minds of young people from destructive activities and instead giving them something positive to focus on. That was the intention of the show even though it was for one afternoon only,” said Fivestar.

One youth who attended the show, Nkosi Nyathi, expressed satisfaction with the show, saying it was an  example of youth creativity at work.
