Inyathi High to host Mat North handball provincial finals

INYATHI High School in Bubi district will play host to the Matabeleland North provincial Under-16 and 20 handball finals tomorrow.
Chairman of the Matabeleland North Handball Association, Churchill Mabasa said Lupane, Bubi, Tsholotsholo, Hwange, Umguza, Nkayi and Binga districts will be taking part in the provincial finals.
Winners will represent the province at the National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) finals in Kadoma and Marondera.
Each district will provide two boys’ teams and as many girls’ in both age-groups.

Mabasa said handball as still developing in the province.
“Handball has become a competitive sport so we expect good challenge tomorrow at the finals as Hwange schools have been dominant in the past,” said Mabasa.

Inyathi High School is geared to defend its Under-20 boys’ crown at home at their newly constructed multi-purpose courts which were used for a national volleyball tournament last weekend while Gebhuza are tipped to shine in the Under-16 girls’ category.

Mabasa said they conducted coaching clinics in Hwange, Bubi, Lupane , Binga and Umguza districts as part of a programme to promote handball in the region.

The Under-16 national finals will be held on 13 July at Jameson High School in Kadoma while Under-20 will be played on 27 July at Marondera High School.

Participating schools
Tsholotsho, Inyathi, Gebhuza, Hwange, Fatima, Binga, St James, David Livingstone, Hlangabeza, Nkayi, Zenzale and Hwange High Schools.
