REGISTRATION for the 2013 edition of the Tour de Falcon set for Sunday has started and ends on Saturday evening at Old Miltonians Sports Club.
Organisers are targeting at least 500 participants and these include cyclists from South Africa and Botswana. The 56-km race begins at Ascot Shopping Centre and ends at Falcon College in Esigodini.
In an interview yesterday, a spokesman for the organisers, Peter Ward said they were looking forward to a competitive race having received calls from out of Zimbabwe cyclists.

“Registration is on at the Falcon College offices and
those wishing to be part of the competition  should to Old Miltonians Sports Club. The registration fee is $10 for adults and $5 for Under-18.
“The Tour de Falcon is getting better with every edition and there are indications that we might have foreign participants who will definitely add value to the competition.

“From within the country we will have cyclists from Victoria Falls, Harare and our own Bulawayo participants,” said Ward.
Last year, Tour de Falcon had a record 476 participants.

The last edition of the competition saw Ralph Mayson setting a new Tour de Falcon course mark of one hour 24 minutes 05 seconds.
He bettered the competition’s previous record of one hour 30 minutes 58 seconds.

Flying Eagles Cycling Club is expected to dominate with favourite Nkulumo Dube who came second at the National Classic Series in Harare behind Bright Chipongo tipped to win the Tour de Falcon.

What will make Sunday’s competition even more exciting is that most participants have been competing in the National Classic Series and their fitness levels are high.

The 2011 first runner-up in one hour 24 minutes 40 seconds Eben Manaba, James Freeland, Ralph Mthupha, Thomas Clasen, Busani Moyo, Mpumelelo Dube, Delwin Domingo and Tonderai Gore are some of Bulawayo’s cyclists expected to participate in the race.
