A MHANGURA woman confronted three armed robbers, who had broken into her house, and in the ensuing chaos one of the robbers died while two others fled the scene.
Provincial Police Spokesperson, Inspector Ian Kohwera, said they were investigating circumstances surrounding the death of Tafadzwa Jenami (27), of Mafuta farm, Raffingora, who is a suspect in an attempted armed robbery case.
“Members of the public are not encouraged to always take such a risk when faced with robbers,” said Insp Kohwera. He said the incident happened at Marimo Homestead Village 2, Hunyani Farm, Mhangura, on Sunday at around midnight.
Insp Kohwera said the Jenami was in company of his two suspected armed robbers — Tapiwa Bepura (33) of Chininga Farm, Raffingora, and Tanyaradzwa Alufande (45), of Yomba Farm, in Raffingora.
He said the trio went to Misheck Marima’s homestead at Village 2, Hunyani Farm, Mhangura.
Misheck, 32, and his wife, 32, were asleep. Insp Kohwera said the trio broke into the couple’s bedroom armed with a Stylox S12Ga.3 chamber rifle.
Misheck’s wife had been awoken by the noise as the robbers forced their way into their bedroom.
Insp Kohwera said she attacked Jenami, who was holding the gun.
He said Misheck’s wife overpowered Jenami by choking him until he collapsed onto the ground.
The neighbours, who had heard the commotion, started to gather and the other two robbers fled into the darkness. When Jenami regained consciousness, he revealed the names of his counterparts.
However, at around 5am, Jenami died.
Insp Kohwera said a police report was made at ZRP Mhangura and officers attended the scene and organised a manhunt for the two suspects who were arrested.
