IN football circles, controversy has always stalked Italian football ace Mario Balotelli.
For the veteran forward, controversy has always been his constant companion, if not middle name.
He has played for major clubs including Manchester City, Liverpool, Inter Milan and AC Milan.
Everywhere he went, he was known for on-field and off-field antics, including clashes with teammates and managers.
Off the field, he gained notoriety for receiving parking tickets and disrespecting partners.
Could this be the case with Zimdancehall chanter Silent Killer?
Is Silent Killer the Zimdancehall equivalent of “Mario Balotelli?”
Of course, he has the talent and unique style, but he often finds himself in difficult situations.
He frequently has issues with music promoters, fans and fellow artists.
Just last weekend, he was unable to enter the United Kingdom after clashing with immigration officials and failing to answer simple questions.
Show organisers, Prince Nathan Entertainment, issued a statement clarifying Silent Killer’s absence at the show, where he was set to share the stage alongside Poptain and Junior Spragga.
“A special thank you to Poptain and Junior Spragga on his UK debut for delivering such a wonderful performance and making the event a true celebration of music and culture.
“However, we regret to inform you that there were three artists who were scheduled to perform.
“Silent Killer was unfortunately unable to attend due to unforeseen circumstances beyond our control.
“He was unable to answer basic immigration questions as his phone was not reachable, and he had forgotten his return date to Zimbabwe.
“We completely understand the disappointment this caused for his fans,” said Prince Nathan Entertainment, in a statement.
After news of his deportation started circulating, many theories emerged, claiming he was “high” on something when he tried to enter the United Kingdom, with some suggesting that he checks into a rehabilitation centre.
Of course, he is yet to give his side of the story, but Silent Killer’s professional profile is in tatters.
With his battered and bruised ego, it remains to be seen if he will be able to retain the faith of event managers and promoters.
In December 2023, Silent Killer had a fallout with his manager, Elder Shambare, who claimed they had parted ways as a result of the chanter’s addiction to drugs.
“The issue isn’t at all about the contract ending, but I have failed to put up with his behaviour, lack of seriousness about business issues, and his life and drug abuse at the expense of building his career,” Shambare told H-Metro back then.
“I am afraid that if I tell you the real issues, it will further affect his career as fans and promoters will know the real Silent Killer.
“So, I just decided to put it lightly so that I don’t cause despondency in various quarters.”
The Locker Master hit-maker has had a number of fights with fellow chanters, including Seh Calaz, Blot, and many others.
In May this year, Silent Killer was slapped with a US$122,170 lawsuit by UK-based event promoters, Y2K Entertainment, who claimed there was a breach of contract.
The UK stable also cited unprofessional conduct after the artist allegedly failed to board his flight to perform at the SAMA Festival in Leicester in April 2025.
Although Silent Killer defended himself, claiming he was justified in his conduct, one wonders why he is always on the wrong side.
The popular chanter has also clashed with several club owners as he sometimes fails to honour contracts or appear on stage later than scheduled.
Silent Killer can still do better and be counted among the top chanters who have embraced professionalism.
The likes of Freeman, Master H, Killer T, and Nisha Ts are some of the role models who shun controversy.
Silent Killer joins the long list of hotheads, including the late Soul Jah Love, who was no stranger to controversy despite his talent.
Other names that come to mind include Blot and, of late, Ras Pompy, who was jailed for six months for drug possession.
As for Silent Killer, he might be skating on thin ice despite the talent he has.
Talent that is not professionally managed is as good as a beautiful and bubbly child without diapers.
Can this be the case with Silent Killer, who continues to court controversy?
