DYNAMOS defender Elvis Moyo, who was targeted to be registered during the mid-season transfer window, may not be able to play football this year after he picked up a fresh knock during training.
Now in the final lap of his two-year contract, Moyo was not registered during the first half of the season to enable him to recover from a hamstring injury.
Coach Genesis Mangombe revealed the defender may not play a further part as the Glamour Boys resume action today with a home game against ZPC Kariba at Rufaro Stadium, following a two-week break for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Moyo may not be able to play for DeMbare again until the expiry of his contract at the end of the season. Mangombe also gave an update on team captain Frank Makarati, who is still out with a knee injury that has troubled him for the past few months.
“Makarati has started training and we are hoping by next week (this week) he should be able to return,” he said.
“But Elvis is still out. We had thought he was now coming back into the team after recovering from his injury, but there was a mishap during training, and he picked up a fresh knock, which may take some time to heal.”
Moyo and his twin Kelvin joined DeMbare in January last year. They have played together for most of their football careers, but the second year at DeMbare is turning out to be a nightmare for the left-back.
Apart from the injury woes, Dynamos are facing a possible shake-up during the mid-season transfer window following revelations that about 10 players want out due to unfulfilled obligations. The giants, however, maintained the coast was clear.
“I cannot be lying that we don’t owe anyone,” said DeMbare chairperson Moses Maunganidze.
“Of course, there are some players who are still owed, but it’s all within the agreed timelines. As a club, we have made a commitment to pay quite a number and at the moment we have everything under control. We don’t anticipate any problems.”
Maunganidze revealed Dynamos will be looking to beef up their strikeforce during the mid-season transfer window to address the scoring challenges.
None of the DeMbare players has scored more than two goals after 14 rounds of play this season.
Interestingly, DeMbare have managed a meagre 14 goals from 14 matches, with three of the goals coming from the boardroom following the verdict of their abandoned match against Chegutu Pirates.
Maunganidze said the Glamour Boys were inclined to go into the market during the mid-season transfer window as they look to position themselves for a strong second half of the season, as well as prepare for the anticipated return to the CAF Confederation Cup. The mid-season transfer window is set to open in exactly two weeks and will run from July 1 to July 31.
“We are yet to meet and get the position of the coaches with regards to any releases and new acquisitions. In fact, the technical team is yet to give us the mid-season report and the transitioning into the second half of the season,” said Maunganidze.
“Inasmuch as they indicated they want a prolific striker, that can only take effect when we get proper proposals with names of the targeted players. So far, no name has come on board. But we are supposed to meet next week (this week) to look at some of these issues.”
Mangombe will also table proposals for midfielders as the giants this year have suffered in the department because of injuries. The midfield has been one of their strongest areas in the last two years.
“Our midfield as well hasn’t been stable because of injuries,” said Mangombe.
“It’s unfortunate Tanaka Shandirwa and Donald Mudadi have been struggling with these injuries and each time they were out, you could easily see the gaps. So, we need another dependable midfielder.
“But on average, I think this squad we have is quite balanced, although we may need a few additions here and there in order to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup.”
DeMbare have had a rough campaign, winning only four games in 14 outings this season. They sit in seventh place, with 19 points, which is 10 points shy of log leaders Manica Diamonds. Just before the break, they lost 0-1 to FC Platinum at Mandava.
