AFTER a short break to make way for the Chibuku Super Cup semi-finals, the Castle Lager Premiership returns with newboys Scottland standing on the threshold of completing an historic fairytale.
The Mabvuku side are on the verge of becoming only the second domestic Premiership side to win the league championship in their first season in the top-flight league.
They have a six-point lead at the top, with just three matches to play, and they could be crowned champions as early as this coming weekend.
They have a date against relegated Kwekwe United and a victory there could be enough to guarantee them the title even of MWOS, Ngezi Platinum Stars and Simba Bhora, the clubs with a realistic chance of catching them, win their games.
Scottland are effectively seven points ahead of the chasing pack because of their vastly superior goal difference.
This means that if they beat Kwekwe United they would have effectively sealed the championship.
Even if they lose at Kwekwe United, they could still effectively win the title in the event that the other three clubs – MWOS, Ngezi and Simba – lose their games this weekend.
Simba host Highlanders at Wadzanai, Ngezi have a date against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva and MWOS take on a Triangle side which has just eliminated them from the Chibuku Super Cup.
Ngezi and MWOS will also clash in the final game of the season while Lloyd Mutasa’s other game is against CAPS United at Rufaro where they will be looking for their first win in the capital this season.
Their elimination from the Chibuku Super Cup, after a home defeat at the hands of the Sugar Sugar Boys, must have come as a hammer blow for MWOS.
Many neutrals, who have been charmed by the way Mutasa and his men have illuminated the Premiership in their first campaign, wanted them to win the tournament.
But, Triangle, who are also not yet safe from relegation, have been a revelation under the guidance of former Dynamos coach Genesis “Kaka” Mangombe.
However, all eyes are on Scottland who looks all set to win the championship in their first season in the PSL.
