Is Young Stunna’s money-throwing act a generous gift or disrespectful?

A controversy surrounding Amapiano star Young Stunna (Sandile Msimango) has sparked online discussions after he was seen giving money to his fans.

While the musician is known for his charitable nature and desire to give back, this particular gesture of throwing money at fans in the street has drawn widespread criticism on X.

Critics argue that the act was disrespectful and that he could have distributed the money in a better way. Furthermore, some users overlooked his spending, noting the small denominations of the money (appearing to be R10 notes).

The musician behind hits like “Adiwele” and “Bopha” demonstrates financial security through continuous celebratory spending following his career successes. Last year, he purchased a house, dedicating it to his music partner, Kabza De Smal.

His appreciation is often expressed by sharing his wealth, particularly with his mother. He consistently celebrates his professional achievements by showering her with blessings. For instance, last year, Msimanga treated his mother to a trip to Dubai to mark his wins.

More recently, in January, he surprised her with a new car. Videos of the surprise circulated on social media, capturing her excitement over her son’s achievement, leading to an outpouring of congratulations from fans who celebrated his success alongside him.

The celebrity is facing criticism for the method used to distribute money to fans, despite the gesture being intended as appreciation for their support.

X users criticised his act and, commenting on the video, @TheeBLCKBARBI questioned the approach: “What is this now . . . I think there are other ways to give back.”

@warrenbeats expressed scepticism about the star’s future financial stability: “After 2-3 years he will be online asking for money…”

@PriestH1mothy noted the small denomination: “Bro withdrew a young R1,000 in R10 and R20 notes only”.

While @wandile_duma felt the fans were being demeaned: “Damn people being treated like peasants, and they are all happy.”

Not all comments were negative, as @Nkomos12 defended the gesture, calling critics thankless. “People are thankless, they complain about R10s and R20s it’s better than nothing.” — IOL
