Israel cuts off internet, phones in Palestine

In a blatant display of aggression and disregard for human life, apartheid Israel has completely cut off all internet and landline telecommunications services across the Gaza Strip.

Palestinian Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Dr Tamer Almassri, has condemned the move.

In a statement this afternoon, Ambassador Almassri said, “This deliberate and dangerous escalation aims to dismantle the telecommunications infrastructure in Gaza, plunging the region into darkness and isolation.”

“This heinous act is a clear attempt by Israel to impose a blackout on Gaza, thereby increasing its atrocities without the prying eyes of the media or other forms of communication,” he said.

“By severing the lines of communication, Israel is seeking to conceal its genocidal activities in Gaza, perpetuating its brutal oppression of the Palestinian people.

“Furthermore, Israel’s escalating attacks on the region have shifted the media’s attention away from the atrocities being committed in Gaza. This diversionary tactic is a calculated effort to distract the international community from Israel’s crimes against humanity, allowing it to continue its genocide in Gaza with impunity.”

Ambassador Almassri added that the cutting of internet and telecommunications services is a violation of human rights and international law.

“The cutting off of internet and telecommunications services is a gross violation of the fundamental right to freedom of expression and access to information.

“It is a desperate attempt by Israel to control the narrative and suppress the voices of the Palestinian people,” he said.

Ambassador Almassri called on the international community to voice concern over such aggression.

“We urge the United Nations and all responsible nations to take immediate action to condemn Israel’s actions and hold it accountable for its crimes.

“The Palestinian people have the right to freedom, dignity, and self-determination, and it is our collective responsibility to ensure that their voices are heard and their rights are protected.

“The state of Palestine demands that Israel immediately restore internet and telecommunications services to the Gaza Strip and end its brutal campaign of oppression and aggression against the Palestinian people,” he said.

Israel’s war on Gaza had killed about 55 104 Palestinians and wounded 127 394 as of June 12, according to the Health Ministry.

About 70 percent of the victims are women and children.
