Trust Khosa in Mt Darwin
SUPERSTAR Alick Macheso is today expected to add colour and excitement to the 43rd Uhuru celebrations at Mt Darwin High School.
The legendary singer will perform at the main celebrations in the afternoon.
After his performance, there will be a football match pitting Highlanders and Dynamos.
The winners will pocket US$35 000 and runners-up US$25 000.
Later in the evening, revellers will be treated to an all-night non-stop music gala at Pfura Stadium where 19 acts and a poet will perform.
Last night, Mt Darwin residents were already excited as they gathered outside the stadium, where event organisers have mounted a state-of-the-art-stage.
The sound system is top-of-the-range while the lighting and the stage are of superior quality.
Director of media services in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, George Chisoko, said it was all systems go.
“There is a lot of excitement as you can see people are already here as we are setting up the stage.
“We expect between 45 000 to 50 000 at the main celebrations where Alick Macheso will perform.
“We have 19 groups and a poet taking part in the Independence Musical Concert.
“Five of the groups are from here in Mash Central,” he said.
Chisoko said the gala was a celebration of achievements of the Second Republic under President Mnangagwa.
“We are going to celebrate our Independence with song and dance.
“Many of our heroes, dead and alive, are from here owing to its proximity to Mozambique.
“Mash Central was a hotbed of the liberation struggle and that is why we are here.”
