VETERAN schools sport administrator Sebastian Garikai tied the knot on Saturday at Prince Edward School.
Garikai, who is the sports director at the school, married Abigail Gotora at a colourful ceremony steeped in tradition.
The marriage comes just a month after Garikai was appointed the head of technical for Team Zimbabwe at the Zone VI Under-20 Youth Games in Bulawayo next year. Garikai is known mostly in rugby circles as the man behind the hugely successful Cottco Schools Rugby Festival.

He has been involved in rugby development since 1999 and has grown the Cottco Schools Rugby brand to attract as many as 184 teams each year. His wife was delighted at the wedding. “Saturday was our day and we are so happy that we wedded. We had a lot of musicians and sportsmen and women and various athletes who graced the event,” said Abigail.

Veteran athletics administrator Tendai Tagara, who is now the director of sports in the Sport, Arts and Culture Ministry, Tendai Bwanya, the Zimbabwe Soccer Referees’ Association chief, Zimbabwe Rugby Union general manager Sifiso Made and St John’s Prep cricket coach Felix Mutare, attended the wedding ceremony.

“I have married the beautiful queen of my heart who has always given me support in many things, especially in sport,” said Garikai.
“In total we had 700 guests so we had a great time, I was delighted by the attendance and the school was the perfect venue.

“This year was very good, full of good things happening and, with my appointment for the Zone VI Games, I cannot wait to get busy when the New Year comes along.

“In Cottco we had a lot of new schools taking part, including the girls’ teams, and I was very pleased with that.”, Garikai said.
“At  Prince Edward we did well in most of our sporting disciplines and it was fantastic. We look forward to a successful 2014.”
