Bulawayo Chiefs 1-0 MWOS

Bulawayo Chiefs secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over MWOS in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League encounter at Luveve Stadium on Saturday, with Jimu Gwara’s first-half strike proving decisive.

Gwara opened the nets in the 39th minute, at a point when the home side were threatening. It was a match that Chiefs made their own in the first half. The second half was much that can be described as loss cause, missed opportunities by MWOS.

Had they been utilising the chances they created, MWOS could have changed fortunes before Gwara’s goal.

The visitors could have made a clear statement in the 14th minute when Clive Kwangwari made a run just outside the goal line, intending to shoot towards goal but his effort was fast detected by Bulawayo Chiefs goalminder Tinotenda Chinovhiringa.

That could have been an opener.

Kwangwari again missed a glorious opportunity in the 32nd minute. Both supplies, from veteran Billy Veremu were a mark for the bookmakers. Billy did good.

The seasoned player was all visible and reliable upfront. Much to credit throughout his bill.

In both halves, the hosts on their part were relaxed but maintained a stay, in the midfield, as their norm. Sadly, they made little effort to prove their mantle at home.

As the match weighed into the dying minutes of the first chapter, it was an affair that rested well in the middle of the park. Brian Rusinga was equal to the task, with Arthur Musiyiwa making his captaincy count on the day.

The second half, as predicted, MWOS had to prove a point from their break time team talk. Arthur Banda, Veremu, Marcelline Mlilo and Valentine Katsande did all to even off position and help their team to look for the equaliser. It was not to be.

Play from both sides was concentrated on the North-End of the Stadium and in the second instalment, the visitors wanted to capitalise on that terrain. MWOS’ Dawid Ndewunyema with his bustle, was all over the place but failed to make the mark.

The match wanned and Amakhosi won.
