It’s advantage Dongo Sawmills

DONGO Sawmills are now holding the destiny of the Eastern Region Division One title race firmly in their own hands and will only need to beat Ruwa United away on Sunday before dismantling Mwenezana at Vengere a week later for them to secure an all-important 2015 Premiership slot. Though it might still be game on in the race for the Eastern Region Division One title after the top of the table clash pitting leaders and favourites Dongo Sawmills against Mutare City Rovers at Vengere Stadium on Sunday fizzled into a goalless draw, on paper, the log leaders now have real advantage over their competitors, Rovers.

Magusha, as Rovers are adoringly referred to by their fans in the eastern border city, failed to do it for themselves at Vengere and will now be depending on either Ruwa or Mwenezana to beat Dongo, while at the same time they also beat Eastern Stars and Gutu in their own remaining two matches of the season.

City Rovers will host Eastern Stars on Saturday (tomorrow) at Sakubva Stadium in a match they need nothing short of victory to keep the pressure on the log leaders as the race for the title now heads for the wire.

Although he reckoned that they should have done it for themselves by beating Dongo at Vengere, City Rovers team manager, Lyndon Kanyemba, remained bullish saying it is never over until it’s over.

Kanyemba bitterly complained about the match official – Makonese Masakadza – who handled the match saying he denied them a clear penalty during the match.
“I think we are now in a difficult position. We should have won it on Sunday and make sure that we do it for ourselves rather than depending on Ruwa or Mwenezana to do it for us.

“However, it being a game of football, you never know. It is not over until it is over.
“ We will play our usual game and hope to win all the remaining two. There is no other way, we are obviously expecting that Dongo loses, at least, one of their remaining matches,” said Kanyemba.

On the other hand, Dongo Sawmills director, Francis Dongo, is confident that his team will win their remaining two matches and ensure that they win the league championship without any favours from other teams.

“I think we just have to concentrate on our remaining matches and hope to win them all.
“I am confident that we are capable of doing that. In fact, our players are well aware of what is at stake hence I do not see the team faltering,” said Dongo.
