‘It’s all about evolving with the times’

BULAWAYO-based female pencil artist, Pearl Fraser-Granger, says she wants to keep improving and becoming relevant to the changing times.

In an interview, Pearl said she was passionate about creating a body of work that represents the best she can be at any time in her journey as an artist.

She paints in different genres, including symbolism, still life, abstract and portrait painting.

The artist described every piece of her work as unique.

“Art is important to society because it’s a language of expression, which if executed well, provides a fairly reasonable income.

“My biggest artistic influences come from the Almighty God who gave me this gift as well as my dad, and my brother Otis ‘The Flow’ Fraser.

“My favourite medium is pencil and charcoal, as this is what I specialise in, hence my love for detailed work,” she said.

As an artist, who relishes the challenges of each of the work that she creates, Pearl is always inspired by facial expressions.

“I find inspiration from facial expressions.

“The facial expressions, and different features of people, are really fascinating to me.

“My favourite time of day to create is the morning but, depending on the amount of work and deadlines, I can go right into late nights.

“My motivation is the fulfilment of the details.

“Success is staying in your lane, being true to who you are and loving what you do.

“Yes, it is also a stress-releaser, bringing in finances.

“Practicing more takes my time in the execution and I pay a lot of attention to my work,” she said.
