ZVA secretary general, Ringisai Mapondera, said they have set the Zimbabwe Open for this weekend but they are still to get confirmation from the clubs taking part.
“We are supposed to have the Zim Open but as usual with local clubs they have not yet confirmed their participation and the deadline was last week, we are stuck. The venues had been secured, as far as preparations on our side, we had done everything,” said Mapondera.
The ZVA secretary general said they are now waiting for communication from the clubs by the end of today for the matches provisionally set for Prince Edward School as three beach volleyball teams head for South Africa for the Port Elizabeth Open.
National beach volleyball commissioner, Robert Njerere, said the teams will be battling it out with their counterparts from countries such as United States, Germany and South Africa.
“We will be in Port Elizabeth and some of the teams are already there, they did not come back after the Cape Town Open tournament.
“It was easier that they acclimatise and they were being helped by a South African coach for the preparations.
Action also continues in the netball Super League with matches scheduled for various venues and provinces during the Easter holiday.
Zimbabwe Netball Association president, Leticia Chipandu, said they are looking forward to a new season.
“We are starting the Super League during the Easter holiday. We have 20 teams in the league and the matches will be played at various venues in different provinces. The games will be spread across the country.”
Local kickboxers, who were recently in South Africa where they scooped seven medals, will continue with their training sessions as they prepare for another upcoming tournament in South Africa and the Independence Trophy set for next month.
In basketball, it will be hive of activity in various provinces as they continue with their leagues.
Hockey clubs will descend on Bulawayo for an invitational tournament at Khumalo from tomorrow until Sunday.
