HARARE CITY face an all-too-familiar foe this afternoon, as they face the University of Zimbabwe Wolves in the final of the Zone Six Volleyball Championships.
The two sides emerged 3-1 victors over Zambian side Indeni and Zimbabwe’s Support Unit, respectively, during last night’s semi-finals clashes.
The all-important final, will be the first of two all-Zimbabwe affairs as their women’s team meet for a third and fourth play-off in the ladies’ category.
Harare City went down 3-0 to the University of Pedagogic (Zambia), while the Wolves women’s side went down by a similar score line against South Africa’s Vaal University of Technology.
In one of the major highlights of last night’s semi-final clashes, featuring all four Zimbabwean teams; Harare City’s Charles Nyamasve emerged as a cut above the rest. Singlehandedly engineering Citizen’s 3-1 victory over Zambian powerhouses Indeni.
The power hitter was in fine form dominating the play in all the sets, despite his side falling in the second one.
The game had go into the third and final set, in a bid to separate the two sides.
Nyamasve, being one of Harare City ‘ s latest signings, reckons that the morale boosting win should spur them on to victory in today’s finals.
” I cannot say it was not difficult, but we simply needed to be organised and pounce at any chance that came our way, “said Nyamasve.
” As a team, we managed to pull ourselves together, pass the ball accordingly and contain our opponents’ main man to ensure he does not score,” he said.
Nyamasve says, attention now shifts to the final, with victory booking the Municipality side a ticket to the African Club Championships in Tunisia early next year.
