RESIDENTS of Mt Darwin last night hailed the Second Republic for honouring them by holding the 43rd Uhuru celebrations in their town.

A number of residents, who spoke to H-Metro last night, said they felt honoured to be hosting the main national celebrations.

“We are already in party mood and we can’t wait to rub shoulders with some of the celebrity musicians and soccer stars.

“We will certainly remember the 43rd celebrations as historic to us, “ said one Mai Muhwa.

A vendor at the bus terminus, who identified himself as Boss Gidza, said the celebrations should inspire local authorities to prioritise service delivery.

“If you look closely, the road leading to the main celebrations has been spruced up.

“It didn’t take a lot of time, but just a couple of days. “I wish our Council can learn a thing or two about service delivery.

“They must be result-oriented like President Mnangagwa,” he said.

Euphoria has since gripped the town as many people started arriving last night for the celebrations.
