South Africa’s hip-hop scene is a force to recjon with. Just watch Channel O, MTV and Trace to see what kind of superstars it has produced in the field of urban music. One of those stars is Ntokozo Mdluli, popularly known as K.O.From his days with rap super group Teargas, to being the face behind popular brand Cash Time Life, K.O has perfected his craft, making himself a serial hit maker.
Now the rapper is set to leave his mark in Harare when he performs at Belgravia Sports Club on August 27.
K.O will be sharing the stage with another South African act, Mafikizolo, and an array of local stars who include Jah Prayzah, Winky D, Judgement Yard, Junior Brown and DJ Stavo among others. The seasoned performer has toured many countries and his experience will be under scrutiny when he sings for a notoriously hard to please Zimbabwean crowd that is known to make gigs difficult for visiting musicians.
K.O’s hit song “Caracara” was a club anthem on the local scene with people even mastering the signature dance.
Other popular hits from the artiste include “One Time”, “Mission Statement”, “No Fear”, “Son of a Gun”, “Ding Dong” and ladies’ favourite “Skhanda Love”.
While some music fans who do not follow hip-hop might not know the superstar, they likely do know the brand he co-owns, Cash Time Life, as the clothing line is making headway in the street wear department.
The rapper first came to prominence in 2006 as part of Teargas along with Ma-E and Ntukza. Their first album, “K’shubile K’bovu”, was a major success catapulting the trio to instant stardom. They followed that up with three more hit albums titled “Wafa Wafa” (2008), “Dark or Blue” (2009) and “Num8er Num8er” (2012).
The group won many accolades, and bagged nominations for prestigious awards such as the MTV Africa Base, BET, Chanel O and Metro FM awards, among others.
K.O embarked on a solo career in 2014, recording success with his first album “Skhanda Republic”, which saw him scoop accolades at the 2015 South Africa Music Awards for Best Rap Album and Best Collaboration for “Caracara”. Meanwhile, the other acts who are performing are huge in their various genres, with Mafikizolo having proven their appeal to local audiences numerous times. The local artistes on the slot are no pushovers either, as Jah Prayzah and Winky D are well known for their exhilarating performances.

The show comes two weeks after the release of Jah Prayzah’s new album “Mudhara Vachauya”.
Organisers have also put together a strong DJ line-up to ensure the party will continue kicking even during interludes with the likes of Judgement Yard taking to the decks.
Speaking to The Sunday Mail Leisure, organisers’ spokesperson DJ Dee Nosh said they wanted to cater for all music tastes.
“We want everyone to enjoy so we have tried to include various genres on the line-up so that everyone who is coming through is catered for,” said Dee Nosh. “If you have noticed, Cash Time Life is very popular in the country so we have decided to bring Mr Cash Time himself so that his fans also get to see him live on stage. This guy has been in the industry for over a decade and everyone who follows hip-hop knows how talented he is so it will be great for him performing here.”
He hinted that fans should brace for a Mafikizolo that will deliver a set unlike anything they have seen or heard in previous visits.
