THIS is for George!

Dynamos remembered their late goalkeeper, George Chigova, as they ended their nine-year wait for the Chibuku Super Cup with an excellent display, on a difficult pitch, in the final at Baobab yesterday.

The hosts were aiming for a League and Cup double while Dynamos wanted to atone for the late collapse in the title race.

Dynamos had already secured a ticket for next year’s CAF Confederation Cup, once they reached the final while Ngezi Platinum won the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League title.

Coach Genesis Mangombe paid tribute to their fans.

“This was a good game from the players, they really played well and I’m happy with the energy levels which they should throughout the game.

“I also want to give it to the fans, who injected life to our performance with their support, and the players did well against a good side.

“I was really pleased with what I saw, the players fought bravely and this is a match which I felt we were not going to lose.”

His counterpart, Takesure Chiragwi said:

“I’m a bit disappointed because once you are in a final you play to win but, somehow, it wasn’t our day.

“The boys gave their all and we also had our moments but it just wasn’t our day.

“It was not a bad performance and I also want to salute our fans who kept pushing us even when we were down,” said Chiragwi.

This match was played before a decent crowd.

Ngezi Platinum had not lost on home soil against the Glamour Boys at this venue since gaining

Dynamos came from the break playing with a bit of urgency with Issa Sadiki giving Ngezi defenders a torrid time.

Donald Mudadi produced a magical moment in the 72th minute with a move which was ended by Elton Chikona, probably the best young striker in the country today, who made no mistake from close range.

Chikona took home the league’s Most Promising Player of the Year gong on Friday.

He was then replaced by Emmanuel Paga five minutes after breaking the deadlock.

The Ghanaian killed the game as a contest with the second goal.
