‘It’s not dead rubber’ victory could improve Warriors Fifa rankings

MANY fans will call it a dead rubber but we would like to call it a a?practice sessiona? when the Warriors play away to Guinea in a 2017 Afcon qualifier.

Coach Kallisto Pasuwa named his 21-member squad with familiar faces late last week.

Most of the called up players were part of the Warriors setup when seeking qualification. Those that are not in the team that left the country on Thursday are either on the injury list, suspended and only one player a Khama Billiat will take a rest.

Caps United right-back Hardlife Zvirekwi will miss the trip due to suspension after accumulating two yellow cards.

As if this was not enough, Warriors midfield genius Kudakwashe Mahachi fractured his arm during the teamas Wednesday morning workout.

a?We are going there to play total football. We are representing Zimbabwe and we should do the nation proud despite that we have already qualified. We should maximise on this match because it will give the players competitive game time,a? said Pasuwa.

A victory against Guinea could help the Warriors improve on the Fifa world rankings. Guinea are number 66 in the world while Zimbabwe are in position 110.

A win will also help Pasuwaas charges to complete a historic unbeaten run in this qualifying campaign for the African football extravaganza. The last time the Warriors were in Conakry for a fight against Guinea, who are their routine opponents in this contest, they went down 0-1 to the hosts after arriving in batches hours before the match. The Warriors arrive in Conakry today, a development that was expected to give them time to conduct a couple of training sessions before Sundayas showdown.
