It’s the veterans’ reunion

in a futuristic play titled “10 Years From Now”.
Zimbabwe’s A-listers of stage theatre Walter Muparutsa, Jasen Mphepho, O’brian Mudyiwenyama and Daves Guzha are to star in an epic production co-written by Zimbabwe’s veteran and perspective playwrights Stephen Chifunyise and Raisedon Baya.

According to the producers – Rooftop Promotions – the play is set to be a thrilling experience for theatre buffs as it is a portrayal of Zimbabwe 10 years from now.
The play opens at Theatre in the Park today and runs until June 19, 2011 to mark the second season of theatre, which opened with a rare cocktail of plays since the beginning of this month.

Tickets are going for US$5 for adults and US$4 for students with shows everyday at 5.30pm.
It is going to be non-stop action from the foursome who represent Zimbabwe’s senior theatre actors.

Award-winning directors Patience Tawengwa and Guzha have come together to bring a mix of old school and new school experiences, ideas and energies.
Part of the synopsis reads: “Picture the indigenisation policy a success and our black brothers flourishing as they enjoy majority shareholding in diamond, uranium and several companies.

“Imagine the country becoming the breadbasket of Africa once again, exporting grain, meat and other farming products all over the world because they are not GMOs and illegal immigrants from South Africa are coming to look for work here.

“Nuclear power is generated from our uranium and we have no more Zesa problems because we are the fourth largest producer of uranium in the world.
“Our diamonds are selling without restrictions because our human rights record has improved and those in power are not eating too much at the expense of the majority.

“Members of different political parties can eat, wine, dine and laugh off their differences as they benefit from the country’s resources and the people get bread and butter on their tables while they are free to express themselves through various channels without fear of state persecution.

“And we have a simple president who can move freely without a motorcade and party with old friends without a huge security contingency
“10 Years From Now” is a an imagination of a miraculously performing Zimbabwe, that looks like fantasy but is a feasibility – second best performing economy in the world, 6 percent inflation, 20 percent unemployment, 10- digit US dollars foreign currency reserves and a host of other developments.

“What will have happened for us to be living in or having such a Zimbabwe, considering where we are today?”
The production will see Guzha’s hottest offering at Theatre in the Park with a cast that was last seen at Theatre in the Park five years ago in plays like “Super Patriots and Morons”, “Waiters” and “Pregnant With Emotions”.

Mphepho, of the “Marcelino” fame in the television sitcom “Waiters” were last seen on stage in 2004 as part of the banned “Super Patriots and Morons” cast.
